Thirty Buckner employees were recognized in our Founder’s Day celebration on April 8 based on coworker nominations. “These 30 honorees only scratched the surface of the depth of character and quality among all Buckner employees,” said President Albert Reyes.
The event also celebrated the rich heritage of R.C. Buckner and his vision for what could be achieved through dedicated service to the least of these.
Veronica Estrada and Dora Segoviano, Baptist Retirement Community employees received recognition at the celebration.

Buckner’s Got “Distinguished” Artists
Hurrying to complete their crafts prior to the TAHSA Art Is Ageless contest deadline, two Buckner Retirement Village residents worked to finish their entries in the elite category called “Distinguished Artist.” This is art work of any medium created when the artist was 95 years young or older.
Helen Clark who placed fourth in Textiles in the 2010 Art is Ageless contest turned 95 years young during the year and decided to try to make clothes pin rocking chairs like her husband used to make after he had heart surgery and needed something to do with his hands. Staff and residents at Buckner Retirement Village thought her first time efforts were really quite exceptional. We sincerely hope the TAHSA judges agree.
Frances Cannon who placed first in the TAHSA 2010 “Distinguished Artist” competition with her original “Cannon Bird Bath” entry, turned 100 years young on Dec. 23, 2010. She had written a note to the campus Executive Director saying: “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to take part in the Art Is Ageless contest. It was exciting, creative, and stimulating.” Following her 2010 win, Mrs. Cannon immediately started contemplating her entry for the 2011 contest. After completing her art work entry for this year, she decided to enter the “Prose” category as well. Just a few days before the contest deadline, she composed a story about a dog she and her husband had adopted and loved. At 100 years young, Mrs. Cannon is old enough to be humble but young enough to be proud!!
